Orogeny: The Force that Builds Mountains

Blame it on the chicken-fried steak. We'd wheeled into a roadside diner in Dillon, Wyoming, and I decided to indulge in the local cuisine. Peggy tried to warn me. The next 24 hours were filled with intestinal eruptions.

I'd been looking out of the corner of my eye for American Archetypes in the landscape. Now, clutching my guts in the wee hours, I saw the earth roiling and heaving as tectonic forces made mountains. Fiery fingers thrusting up into granite pillars.

Orogeny tries to catch that upheaval. Volcanic steam plumes across the moon.
